HOT NOVEMBER COMICS1 of 12
Nothing lasts forever, but nothing stays dead in comic books. Marvel Comics' November solicitations make good on that idea with even more big name returns coming in the second month of "Legacy."
Longtime Marvel readers may want to take note of Invincible Iron Man #594 and Mighty Thor #701, but the comebacks don't stop there, as a whole host of classic X-Men characters are also back in action.
If that sounds like a lot, don't worry - we've got you covered. Here's our easily digestible rundown of everything we learned from Marvel's November 2017 solicitations.
MAKE YOUR OWN MARVEL2 of 12
The creators of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl have never been afraid to experiment with Doreen Green and her wild adventures, and November brings their next big idea when #26 has a slew of guest creators join the book to create stories – told as though they were created by Marvel characters.
If that sounds hard to follow, here’s the gist: Squirrel Girl has enlisted her friends from around the Marvel Universe to create their own comic books – with Squirrel Girl #26 presenting stories that, in the context of the title, were created by Marvel characters (If you remember, Steve Rogers was once a working comic artist).
And what’s more, among the guest creators, the solicitation lists “a legendary comic strip artist making his Marvel debut.”
MISSING TITLES3 of 12
Marvel’s November solicitations look a lot like its October solicitations – just with even more “Legacy” titles added in. But if when compared to the publisher’s September solicitations, there are a few titles still unaccounted for.
As previously announced I Am Groot and Rocket will end their runs well before November. But Infamous Iron Man, Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme, and Nick Fury are also missing (since September's solicits, in fact) – with their fates still unconfirmed, but not looking good.
GENERATION THEN4 of 12
Generation X entered “ResurrXion” with a brand new team of young mutants, but with “Legacy,” the team is bringing back some of its oldest team members.
First up, Generation X #8 reintroduces the seemingly still vampiric Monet St. Croix to the Marvel Universe – who was revealed to be behind recent troubles the new team has faced.
Then in Generation X #9, Paige Guthrie A.K.A. Husk returns – though it’s unclear if she’s still associated with the villainous Hellfire Academy.
JAMESON/PARKER5 of 12
How many of us have often wondered if J. Jonah Jameson would actually like Spider-Man if he actually just sat down and talked to him?
We’re about to find out in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #6, when JJJ sits down with Spidey Frost/Nixon style – over dinner no less.
THE UNCANNY EXTERNALS6 of 12
Fans who loved the X-Men in the 90s will remember the concept of the Externals, a special, immortal breed of Mutant that had ties to Apocalypse and other villains.
The Externals have been absent as a concept almost entirely since the 90s, but with Cable bringing back the New Mutants in “Legacy,” it looks like the Externals are returning as well.
The solicitation for Cable #151 makes it clear that the mission for which the aforementioned “new New Mutants” were assembled for is to protect the Externals themselves – possibly from the vampiric Selene.
MEN IN UNIFORM7 of 12
The X-Men are leaving Earth in November’s X-Men: Gold #16 to venture into the Negative Zone – and judging by the cover, they’ve got snazzy new matching outfits to do it.
The X-Men have often worn matching or similar outfits – that was the team’s original look, after all – and it makes sense they’d go back to that for the story starting here.
According to the solicitation, “The Dartayus Odyssey” has the X-Men on the hunt to rescue “one of their own.”
GRAVE DANGER8 of 12
As revealed as part of “Legacy,” Zebediah Killgrave – the Purple Man – is back to menace Jessica Jones once again.
But with the solicitation for Jessica Jones #14, the situation gets even more dire, as Killgrave has kidnapped Luke Cage and Jessica Jones’ daughter, Dani Cage.
As the solicitation says, “Dear God.”
THE BIRDS AND THE, UH, SPIDERS9 of 12
When it comes to love, Spider-Man and Mockingbird might be two birds in the same nest (Spiders in the same web?). Given that Peter Parker traded his marriage for his Aunt May’s life and Bobbi Morse was married to Hawkeye, it’s safe to say neither one of them is known for being lucky in love.
So maybe it makes sense that their relationship may be getting romantic come November. Mockingbird has been working as Spider-Man’s S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison since the end of Secret Wars, and now in Amazing Spider-Man #791, it looks as though they’re making the leap and locking lips – with the solicitation referring to Peter’s “new relationship.”
THE HISTORICAL IRON MAN10 of 12
There’s a lot going on between the cover and solicitation for November’s Invincible Iron Man #594 to suggest that Tony Stark is about to make a comeback - what with that armored silhouette on the cover, and the mention of “one of the most anticipated moments in Marvel’s history” in the text.
But don’t count your chickens before they hatch – Tony Stark has barely been gone a year – and he’s kinda really been around as an A.I. that whole time. Would that make his return one of the “most anticipated moments in Marvel history?”
We’re not saying Tony’s return wouldn’t be big news – but we are saying there’s still room for a twist.
THE DRAMATIC THOR11 of 12
It’s not hard to piece together what the solicitation for The Mighty Thor #701 is talking about when it mentions “the most dramatic return in the Marvel Universe.”
Given that the preceding issue has a story called “The Death of Jane Foster” we think we’re on the right track anticipating the reunion of Odinson and Mighty Mjolnir.
(Hey, isn't there a Thor: Ragnarok movie with Odinson as Thor coming in November as well?)
But then again, that sure looks like a shattered Uru hammer on the cover. Could the arrival of the murderous Mangog in Asgardia portend an even bigger change for the son of Odin and former God of Thunder?
