Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met with ousted Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn to "clear the air" following the later's dismissal over offensive tweets from years ago that resurfaced, but Disney and Marvel are standing by their decision according to Variety. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reportedly agrees with Horn's decision, but was unable to attend the meeting.
The Hollywood trade reports that in addition to the film franchise's cast petitioning for his reinstatement, Gunn's agents at UTA "pushed hard" for Disney to re-hire him.
Marvel Studios will resume its search for a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director once Kevin Feige returns to Marvel Studios' California offices from an out of town trip according to Variety. Gunn's script from the film will reportedly still be used to some degree, dependent on the director Marvel chooses to hire.
